Before we opened our doors in the spring of 2010, we set ourselves a goal: let locals and visitors of Grünerløkka experience a piece of America.
We shipped hand-crafted furniture across the Atlantic, bought ourselves a classic jukebox, and to this day we think it’s the prettiest little diner we’ve ever seen. We sure are proud.
When it came time to design a menu, we knew that we couldn’t serve any old greasy roadside food (as much as we love it!).
Everything we can, we make in house. You won’t find pancakes like ours anywhere else in Norway, maybe even Europe. Our sauces, even our signature mayonnaises, are hand-made from secret recipes: the best barbeque, blue cheese, cajun, buffalo and hollandaise sauces in town. Our pulled pork and chili con carne have been carefully, authentically created from scratch.
Our orange juice is squeezed fresh daily. We serve smoky, spicy, creamy bloody marys like no one else’s. Hardly a day goes by that we aren’t cooking up homemade pies and cheesecakes as good as our moms used to make. Well, almost as good.
Anything we can’t make ourselves we won’t use unless it’s the very best, like gourmet ice cream from Kulinaris, breads from Baker Brun, and organic apple juice from Epleblomsten in Telemark.
Nothing goes better with good food like good beer, and alongside great drafts from our neighbors at Grünerløkka Brygghus, we constantly add fantastic American craft beers to our bottle and can collection, which we believe to be one of the best around.
And the best part? We use beef provided by our friends Guro, Tor-Arne and their team at Halstenshov Farm, whose ethical practices and grass-fed, free-roaming cows make us proud to serve organic meat in our steaks, burgers and chili. Tastes better too.
